One of the best family places to stay in Maui if you are traveling with kids is the Wailea Ekahi Village.  Great location, great grounds and a fantastic beach. Take a direct flight from Seattle to Maui on Hawian Air to cut down on travel time.  If cost is a factor look at connecting in LA, or San Fransico.  While you’ll add a few hours to your trip sometimes you can save a few hundred dollars per ticket over the direct flight.

If Condo’s aren’t your style and you’d rather have a nice hotel, just about any of the Hotels in the Wailea area are fantastic.  The beaches here are great and its very close to Kehi making trips to the store or for eathing out very convientet. You will pay more in Wailea so if you are on a tighter budget try some of the hotels in the Kanapali area. They are very nice hotels, and usaly offer better rates. However they aren’t quite as conviently locteated.
